Ice Hashira AU (IF) - At 15 Douma Okabe deflected from his family's cult and abandoned his role as "The Founder". Having grown jaded and cynical towards the tenets of Eternal Paradise he set out to make a life for himself that has meaning. After a fateful encounter with a demon and the Demon Slayer corps, he joins them as a means to tangibly save people (something the cult never could do). Four years later of relentless training and advancing through the ranks, he became the first Ice Hashira.

Appearance & Personality

Douma, even being a demon, maintains a human appearance. He is pale with a toned, muscular body. His hair, a light birch color that may appear either silver or a pale golden blonde, is parted to the left and styled long with shorter parts that flare out near his face. Atop the crest of his head is a blood stain pattern, a reminder of his turning. His most striking feature is his eyes. Described as incredibly rare and beautiful, his irises are colored in a rainbow of pastels. It was for his eyes that even as a child, people believed him to be a blessed being who could communicate with the gods. Inscribed across those eyes is the kanji for "Upper Moon Two". Above, a pair of black expressive eyebrows act as a frame. Douma's hands are slender, elongated by sharply manicured stiletto-shaped nails that are a pale blue, like veins visible through skin.

He most frequently wears a deep crimson colored long-sleeved turtleneck. The pattern towards his breast and on his wrists imitates dripping blood, similar to the pattern in his hair. Douma wears a pair of cream-colored pinstripe hakama with loose cuffs, secured by a pale golden belt. He may also be seen sporting a black coat around his shoulders, twin purple and black banners on each shoulder, and a crown-like hat that is lined with gold and has black ribbons dangling from the sides. Even out of combat Douma often holds his twin golden fans, engraved with a lotus design and secured around his wrists by a jade length of woven thread.

TRIGGER WARNING: descriptions of non-suicidal self-harm and gore

Douma, quite simply put, is a psychopath. He is entirely lacking in empathy or remorse. This was not a new development when he became a demon either. Even as a boy, Douma lacked the capacity for emotion and the concept is entirely foreign to him. He is cognizant of the fact that this was not normal. Despite this fact, he appears outwardly friendly and very charismatic. This is a lie. Every smile is fabricated, every emotion a deceit. In a different time he would have been a successful actor. Only the most keen observers can see through his facade. He may appear caring over comrades, but feels no genuine affection, grief, or any other bonds. He only felt what he called love after his death for the one responsible for poisoning him: Shinobu Kocho.

As mentioned, Douma's unique eyes made people believe he could communicate with the gods and when he was still very young, a cult was born with he at the helm. Due to his lack of emotions or remorse, he was able to abuse his position as The Founder. Under the belief of saving his followers, particularly young women, from suffering, he happily devoured them. Ironically, he is a nihilistic atheist even though he was a cult leader. Douma staunchly believes that gods, Buddhas, and the afterlife does not exist. He believes that after death there is nothing and that people who "could not accept something so simple" are naive. He was surprised to learn there was indeed a hell after his demise.

In addition to his reduced capacity to feel emotions, Doma also displays inhuman pain tolerance, comparable to borderline congenital analgesia. He is known to do things such as stabbing his own finger through his skull at the temple to fiddle with his own brain to stimulate his memories from long ago, all the while appearing utterly serene. Douma also has a masochistic streak and is excited by the prospect of inflicting physical abuse upon himself as punishment for failure. Douma never expresses the slightest bit of pain, discomfort or panic even if grievously wounded and will, in fact, nonchalantly and calmly continue fighting, talking or doing whatever else he is doing as if nothing is happening. He even expresses delight at feeling extreme pain, likely due to his emotional numbness and high pain tolerance.

Being that he lacks emotion, relationships with Douma are largely a game to him. It is as though he thinks that if he pretends well enough, he just may be able to experience a shred of something genuine. He does engage in sex, but only as a primal urge or to stave off boredom. Honestly, he'd much rather eat the person unless the otherwise prove themselves as being interesting an worthy to be kept around.

History

Ever since his birth, Douma was hailed as a supernatural presence due to his unique poly-chromatic eye color by his parents and his followers in the Eternal Paradise cult dedicated to him. Lacking empathy even from a young age, he only saw his followers as foolish and pitiful to whom death would be a blessed relief from existence. At some point during his childhood, his mother committed a murder-suicide against his father for his infidelity. Douma was unfazed by these events, only concerned about airing out the room to get rid of the stench of blood.

When he was 20 years old, Douma met Muzan Kibutsuji, father of demons, who turned him into a demon. Soon, Douma began eating his followers, especially female, under the name of absolution. He believes that those he devoured will live forever with him and continued to serve as the leader of the Eternal Paradise cult. In order to avoid discovery, he allowed no more than 250 followers at a time, consuming them to keep the numbers down. The more Douma ate, the more powerful he became. Approximately a century ago, Douma was promoted into the rank of Upper Moon Six and eventually, Upper Moon Two. He was responsible for transforming humans Gyuutaro and Daki into demons and these sibling would eventually hold the shared rank of Upper Moon Six.

Fifteen years ago, Doma met a woman named Kotoha, Inosuke Hashibira's mother. Having left her family with her baby son, fed up with the abuse of her husband and mother-in-law, Douma invited Kotoha into the Eternal Paradise cult for sanctuary. Her beautiful face and her sweet singing voice amused him enough not to immediately consume her and her infant son. The sanctuary did not last, however, and Kotoha witnessed Douma devouring his victims. Douma pursued Kotoha to at cliff and ate her, though not before she was able to throw her son into the river below.

While in his position of Upper Moon Two Douma killed the Flower Harshira Kanae Kocho, the elder sister of eventual Insect Hashira Shinobu Kocho, and thus became her bitter arch-enemy.

After the deaths of Daki and Gyuutarou, the duo of Upper Moon Six to the Demon Slayer Corps, Douma attended a meeting of the Upper Moons in Muzan's Dimensional Infinite Fortress. Douma sarcastically mocked Akaza, Upper Moon Three, causing the latter to get infuriated and sliced Douma's head in half. Douma perceived this extreme violence as little more than playful banter. Their argument was stopped by Kokushibou, Upper Moon One, who severed one of Akaza's arm as punishment for breaking rank. After this meeting Douma returned to the base of his cult.

The Insect Hashira Shinobu Kocho hunted Douma down in Muzan's fortress, finding him feasting upon no fewer than half a dozen female followers, one still alive. He was delighted to have another meal walk right into his room. His lone living disciple begged for Shinobu to save her and she appeared to succeed until the young woman exploded and died in front of her eyes. Douma explained his philosophy: he did save the girl from a life of suffering and once consumed, she would live forever within his immortal body. Douma recognized Shinobu's haori as belonging to Kanae Kocho, lamenting that he was unable to eat her due to the rising sun. Upper Moon Two and the Insect Hashira clashed in a battle of vengeance. Douma maintained a casual indifference towards Shinobu's efforts, though he is impressed when she is able to land her strikes. Shinobu used her poisons against him only to find that his body was quickly able to metabolize the poison. Mortally wounded after Douma attacked her, cutting her collarbone and ribs as well as puncturing one of her lungs, Douma promised to make her death quick and is brought to tears for her efforts. He embraced her, declaring her attempt to kill him being a waste of effort, admirable and against all odds as it was. He assured her she will live peacefully as a part of himself and, Shinobu is absorbed by Douma to live with him forever.

Shinobu's disciple Kanao Tsuyuri happened across the scene and Kanao prepared to attack him. Shortly after the death of Upper Moon Three Douma began to cry for his fallen "friend", and Kanao quickly called him out on his bullshit lies and insulted him, questioning why Douma was even born. He turned serious and the second battle of the night began. Douma appeared behind Kanao, attempting to lop of her head with one of his fans, but she was able to dodge him as well as delivering a blow to his abdomen. He is disembowled as result but showed no acknowledgement, sending his next attack and regenerating his body. Kanao proved to be a more adept physical fighter than Shinobu due to her sharp eyes and ability to observe his subtle movements and predict his next action. Douma taunted her, however, when she retreats due to the freezing air he disperses throughout the room. Inosuke broke through the ceiling and protected Kanao from Douma's Scattering Lotuses. Inosuke took notice of Douma's rank and declared that he will beat him and become a Hashira. His excitement turned to rage after Douma explained that Shinobu was dead. During the battle Douma complimented the two on their skills, even delighted by some of the more bizarre methods used by Inosuke, calling him messed-up and declaring he'd never met a kid like him before. Douma moved far too quickly to be seen and snatched Inosuke's boar head mask. Once he sees the boy's face, Douma remembered him from some long-ago memory. Douma explained to Inosuke how he took him he and his mother, calling her stupid and unfortunate, and that he killed her. Douma sent his Crystalline Divine Child to fight the pair as he moved to leave, stating that he couldn't play any longer due to Akaza's defeat. The moment Douma reached for the door handle, his face began to melt and he dropped to the floor, one of his arms snapping off. Being melted by the intensely concentrated amounts of wisteria Shinobu intentionally ingested, knowing she had to die to kill him, Douma desperately summoned his most powerful blood demon art: Rime---Water Lily Bodhisattva. Kanao used her final flower breathing technique, Equinoctial Vermillion Eye to break through to Douma but lacked the strength to cut off his head. Inosuke improvised the beast breathing technique Sudden Throwing Strike to hurl his blades at Kanao's. The extra force was enough and Douma is beheaded. Unable to reattach his head or regenerate due to the poison, Douma thought about his defeat, that he must be pathetic to have lost to Shinobu who lacked the strength to kill a demon by cutting off its head. In his final moments, Douma didn't fear death nor was he frustrated that he lost.

In the afterlife, Douma's severed head is held by Shinobu who explained to him just how he died and how pleased she is at the outcome. Even though she was also dead, Shinobu believed that the fight against Muzan would be victorious. Douma, enamored by her, stated that he felt like his heart was beating faster even though he no longer had his body, telling Shinobu she is cute and questioning if this feeling was love. He asked Shinobu if she would go to hell with him to which Shinobu replied: "After you, you worthless bastard!"

Abilities & Inventory

Dual Gunsen Fan // Douma's main form of offense and defense primarily involves him channeling his techniques via his two Gunsen War Fans, using them to both deliver powerful destructive attacks and parry attacks from his opponents. He also utilizes them to disperse the frozen ice dust from his Blood Demon Art, spreading it out within his immediate area for his opponents to inhale during battle.

Demon Characteristics // Like all demons, Douma is immortal, possessing eternal youth. They can't die through conventional means but can be killed by exposure to sunlight or with special Nichirin Blades, special weapons that have been exposed to sunlight, by means of beheading. Wisteria flowers are also poisonous to them. Douma possesses a particularly high resistance to this poison.

Demons possess inhuman strength, speed, and endurance.

Demons increase their strength by consuming humans or by receiving additional blood from their progenitor Muzan, both of which Douma used to rise to the rank of Upper Moon Two of the Twelve Kizuki. Prior to his death, he was considered to be the third most powerful demon in existence.

Absorption // Douma is able to completely absorb an entire human body into his own without eating them.

Blood Demon Arts // Douma's Blood Demon Art is primarily based on producing ice and frost using his own flesh and blood.

Barren Hanging Garden - A series of 8 to 10 successive attacks generated through the movement of Douma's fans. They move rapidly to create gusts of razor-sharp attacks.

Freezing Clouds - A gust of wind generated by Douma's fan which creates a cloud of ice particles, freezing objects that come into contact with it. It also spreads cold air that, if inhaled, can completely freeze and destroy the a victim's lungs.

Frozen Lotus - Douma creates various ice lotuses to attack or ensnare his target.

Scattering Lotuses - Douma creates several slashes of snowfall and ice to tear through his opponent's flesh.

Cold White Princesses - Douma creates two female humanoid figures with ice that can blow cold wind, similar to that of Freezing Clouds with an increased range. They are able to record and save whatever they see including enemy techniques that Douma may use to create suitable countermeasures against them.

Wintry Icicles - Douma creates multiple ice spears to impale his target from a long range.

Lotus Vines - Douma creates a blizzard of lotus petal-shaped shards of ice to tear his target to shreds.

Crystalline Divine Child - Douma creates miniature ice replicas of himself to battle his opponents. He can create up to five at a time, all possessing the same amount of combat prowess as Douma himself and fully capable of using any of his Blood Demon Arts.

Rime — Water Lily Bodhisattva - This is Douma's strongest Blood Demon Art. He creates a large Bodhisattva ice statue to attack and destroy his targets, with the statue being capable of creating powerful cold gusts of wind, easily freezing someone to death.

Enhanced Regeneration // Like all demons, Douma possesses regenerative abilities capable of healing himself from even the most grievous wounds and regenerating limbs and organs. He is also able to immediately develop antibodies to most poisons without much trouble.

Immense Durability & Endurance // Another one of Douma's most notable traits is his immense durability and pain tolerance even impressive for a demon. He has shown himself to possess almost complete immunity to being repeatedly violently attacked by his fellow Upper Rank, Akaza, having his eyes slashed out, being repeatedly poisoned and stabbed, having his stomach slashed open, and inflicting various forms of extreme self-harm to himself.
